Dr. Lluís Serra Majem

Director 

Professor Dr. Lluís Serra-Majem (Barcelona, Spain 1959) is a medical doctor with a Ph.D. specialising in Preventive Medicine and Public Health Nutrition. In 1988, he became Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Barcelona School of Medicine. During this time, he founded and has been the Director since 1990 of the Community Nutrition Research Centre which is located at the University of Barcelona Science Park. In 1995 he became Full Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he also holds the UNESCO Chair for Research, Planning and Development of Local Health and Food Systems, and is the Director of the Nutrition Research Group, Director of the International Chair for Advanced Studies on Hydration as well as Director of the Research Institute in Biomedical and Health Sciences (IUIBS).

In addition, he is Coordinator of the Las Palmas Nutrition Group that belongs to the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red-Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición (CIBEROBN) (Biomedical Research Network Center- Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition) of the Carlos III Health Institute that is linked to the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. He also serves as Coordinator of the Las Palmas Research Node for the PREDIMED (Prevention with Diet Mediterranean) and the current PREDIMED PLUS studies.

Autonomous University of Barcelona. PhD in Nutrition (PhD) from the University of Perugia (Italy) and Master in Public Health from the UPV.

Director of the Community Nutrition Unit of the Public Health Service of the Bilbao City Council and Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the University of Navarra. Coordinator of the Working Group on Epidemiology of the NAOS Strategy (Nutrition, Obesity and Physical Activity) of the Ministry of Health and Consumption. Technical Director of the PERSEO program of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) for the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating in the Spanish school population. President of the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition (SENC). Founding member and president of the scientific committee of the NGO “Nutrición sin Fronteras”. Vice President of the Spanish Academy of Nutrition. President of the Food Sciences Section of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao. He has published as author 9 books; As editor or co-editor 20; Author of 103 book chapters and 4 prologues. He is the author of 67 articles in scientific journals (34 international).

Master in International Cooperation for Development by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Master in Public Health Nutrition by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Researcher of the Nutrition Group of the Research Institute of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Department of Clinical Sciences, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Member of the Latin American Group of Community Nutrition.

RESEARCH LINES: – Nutritional, cognitive and social assessment of children assisted in the prevention center of child malnutrition in Mendoza, Argentina. -Effect of the Mediterranean diet on the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease “PREDIMED”. – Nutritional intervention study with milk enriched with aloe vera in patients with gastroesophageal reflux. -Evaluation of the immunomodulation during the puerperium with the intake of milk fermented with Lactobacillus casei. -European Project Aligned (EURRECA), Sixth Framework Program Priority 5 Food Quality and Safety. – Study of hydration habits, diet and health in pregnant women of the Canary Islands.

She is participant and invited speaker at scientific meetings, conferences, and symposia. She is the author of publications in national and international journals and book chapters. She currently lives in the Canary Islands, Spain.

Dra. Mariela Nissensohn

Mariela Nissensohn was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She obtained a degree in Nutrition at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina in 1998. She studied a Master in Clinical Nutrition at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and obtained her PhD. in Public Health (Epidemiology, Planning and Nutrition) at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2012. She is a Member of the Research Institute of Biomedical and Health Sciences, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Member of the CIBER OBN, Biomedical Research Networking Center for Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition, Carlos III Health Institute.

She has been Associate Professor of Nutrition at the Universidad Autónoma del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico during 2007 – 2008. She has extensive experience in the field of Clinical Nutrition, especially in the areas of diabetes and obesity. She has participated in national and international projects as EURRECA (European micronutrient Recommendations Aligned), as well as in several projects of the European Hydration Institute. She has coordinated the project Relation between moderate consumption of beer, nutritional quality of the diet and type of eating habits.

She has participated in several lines of research both in the field of Clinical Nutrition and Nutritional Epidemiology: micronutrients in general and in particular the Zinc in infants, omega 3 fatty acids in relation to their biomarkers, hypertension in relation with the Mediterranean Diet, different aspects of hydration in the framework of ANIBES Study (Anthropometry, Ingestion and Energy Balance in Spain) and Predimed Plus, etc. She is author and co-author of many nutrition articles published in several international scientific journals and has made several book chapters.

Lda. Raquel Luzardo Socorro

I am Venezuelan, 36 years old, I have a Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Zulia University in Maracaibo – Venezuela earnet in 2010, and a Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences from Technical University of Madrid (TUM) – Spain. Currently working towards my Doctoral Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at Technical University of Madrid (TUM) – Spain. Also I have Level II Anthropometrist (I.S.A.K.). I have worked as a researcher for 4 years in hydration, physical activity and sport in adults. On the other hand, I have participated in dozens of congresses, conferences, seminars, symposiums and scientific conferences both nationally and internationally in Americas and Europe. I have been coauthor in several publications about nutrition, physical activity and hydration research. In 2015, I was awarded a scholarship by the European Hydration Institute (EHI) and an international recognition at the 6th Hydration Network Meeting at the Royal Academy of Medicine in London – England, on the merit of being among the two best scientific results at European Experts. On the other hand, I consider myself a proactive and qualified person to work on prevention and policy development projects oriented towards the integral health of the population from a nutritional perspective, emphasizing hydration as a fundamental part of what has been my process of development as a professional and as a human being, able to help others through research.
